The short answer

Consider Adobe Express for template-based marketing work, Figma for collaborative design systems, Photopea for layered image editing, Kittl for merchandise-oriented design, Visme for presentations, and Pixelcut for product images. They solve different parts of Canva’s broad role.

Before replacing Canva, identify what you actually use it for. A social-media template tool, a photo editor, and a product-design workspace are not interchangeable simply because all three export images. The best alternative may replace only one part of your current workflow.

We kept this list to six distinct options. The comparison prioritizes the final deliverable, editing handoff, commercial-use requirements, and the number of people who need access. It does not claim that switching always saves money.

Everyday marketing layouts and content

Adobe Express

Shortlist Express for recurring marketing work when the team benefits from a template-oriented process. Rebuild one real campaign and check how quickly a colleague can make the next version without breaking the layout.

Check before choosing: Confirm whether another Adobe subscription already includes what you need.

Reusable design components and collaboration

Figma

Figma is a candidate when design systems and structured collaboration matter more than fast template browsing. Ask the designer to create a reusable component and let a non-designer try adapting it.

Check before choosing: A cheap collaboration seat may not include the editing capabilities you require.

Layered photo and design-file editing

Photopea

Consider Photopea for a task that needs layer-level editing rather than a new template library. Test your actual source file, fonts, masks, and export format before relying on it for client handoffs.

Check before choosing: File compatibility should be tested with the specific documents you use.

Merchandise and type-led design

Kittl

Kittl is worth evaluating for designs intended for products and merchandise. Begin with the production specification from your printer so the trial is judged against a real output requirement.

Check before choosing: Verify print resolution, vector export, and commercial licensing for the selected assets.

Presentations and visual business communication

Visme

Compare Visme when the recurring job is a presentation, report, or visual explanation. Test whether a teammate can update figures and keep the result consistent without rebuilding every slide.

Check before choosing: Confirm export formats and offline delivery before committing.

Product-image preparation

Pixelcut

Pixelcut is an alternative for the product-photo part of a design workflow. It does not need to replace every layout or presentation task to be useful. Evaluate it against image accuracy and accepted exports.

Check before choosing: You may still need a layout tool for text-heavy campaigns.

A practical decision path
  1. 1Name the deliverable
  2. 2Rebuild one real campaign
  3. 3Test the next revision

Use a real campaign as the trial

Take one existing campaign with a social post, a story-sized version, and a product graphic. Re-create it in the candidate tool using assets you have permission to use. Record the time to produce the first version and then the time to revise the price or headline.

The revision is often the revealing part. A tool that creates one polished image quickly may be awkward when another person has to update twenty variants next week. Test the handoff, not just the first export.

Count migration and collaboration costs

List the templates, brand assets, fonts, and shared folders you would need to move. Some projects may become flat images when exported, losing editability. Keep editable originals until the new workflow is proven.

Price the actual seat mix. Viewers, commenters, and full editors can have different costs. Add licensed assets and any separate AI credits before deciding that one subscription is cheaper.

When keeping Canva makes sense

If the current workflow is fast, consistent, and affordable, a switch needs a clear benefit. A specialist tool can complement it for a narrow task without forcing a full migration.

The strongest reason to change is a recurring limitation that the alternative demonstrably removes. A new interface alone is not a business outcome.

Our recommendation

Make the choice fit your business.

Pick an alternative for a specific job and test the handoff. Replacing every design task at once is usually unnecessary.
