The short answer
Shortlist Printful when its production and fulfillment workflow fits your products. Compare Printify when choosing among print providers is useful to you. Neither is automatically cheaper: compare the same product, print placements, destination and service expectations, including shipping and any membership fee.
Both options can support a store that sells products without holding the entire finished-product inventory in advance. The decision is operational: who produces an order, how you check the result, what the customer pays and what remains after fulfillment costs.
This comparison uses the providers’ public pricing information and editorial evaluation criteria. We have not ordered test samples or measured delivery performance. The trial below is a suggested way to gather evidence for your own products.

The shortlist, explained

Sellers evaluating Printful’s production and fulfillment workflow
Printful
Printful lists a no-monthly-fee option and a Growth membership with product discounts. Its pricing page describes in-house production and fulfillment. Compare the actual catalog item and delivery destination before deciding whether the workflow and paid membership fit your store.
Check before choosing: A free membership does not mean free goods or fulfillment. Growth eligibility, discounts and sales-based fee waivers have conditions; confirm them before estimating savings.
Sellers who want to compare print-provider options
Printify
Printify presents a marketplace of print providers and paid membership discounts. Evaluate a specific product/provider combination, not just the platform name. Its listed monthly and yearly prices represent different commitments.
Check before choosing: Production, shipping and tax are separate from membership. Check the provider and route used for the order, along with any conditions on routing or substitutions.
- 1Choose a matched product and destination
- 2Compare the complete per-order cost
- 3Approve a sample and order workflow
Compare one complete product, not two headline prices
Choose the same garment or closely matched product, size range, print method, number of print placements and customer destination. Record anything that is not equivalent. Comparing a basic front print with a premium garment and two print areas will not tell you which service is cheaper for your offer.
Keep separate columns for product production, extra decoration, shipping, tax, storefront/payment fees and the allocated membership charge. Record the date and currency of each quote. Discounts advertised as “up to” are not the discount on every item.
When does a paid membership pay for itself?
Use your actual quoted saving per order. Break-even order count equals the monthly membership fee divided by the saving on the product mix you expect to sell. Round up to a whole order and check whether your likely volume reaches it.
For illustration only, a $25 membership with a $2 saving per qualifying order needs 13 such orders to cover its fee. At five orders, the $10 product saving would not cover that membership. This is arithmetic, not a quoted discount or performance claim for either provider.
For an annual commitment, compare the full cash payment with a realistic annual order forecast. Do not use an optimistic peak month for every month of a new store. If a provider waives a membership fee after a threshold, confirm which sales count and when the waiver applies.
Run a sample-order check before publishing a large catalog
Order a sample of the exact product and print configuration you intend to sell. Use a representative destination if practical. One sample is useful evidence about that order; it is not a guarantee of every future batch.
- Design: inspect placement, edges, colors, small text and the relationship between the preview and the delivered item.
- Product: check sizing, material, care instructions and whether the description accurately reflects what arrived.
- Delivery: record production time and carrier transit separately; inspect packaging and tracking messages.
- Support: review the process and evidence required for a damaged or misprinted item. Distinguish a production issue from a customer changing their mind.
- Store workflow: verify variant mapping, order approval, payment funding and how a cancelled or refunded order is handled.
Choose a workflow you can maintain
A larger supplier choice is useful only if you can manage the differences between the options. A more standardized workflow is useful only if its product range and destinations meet your needs. Write down who will review exceptions and answer customer delivery questions.
For an existing store, move a small product group first. Check product identifiers, mockup assets, shipping promises and open orders before changing the rest. Keep your old order records and avoid promising customers a faster service until you have evidence for the new route.
Our recommendation
Make the choice fit your business.
Begin with a small, representative product set and a commitment you can justify with current demand. Choose the provider workflow that passes your quality, margin and delivery checks. Pay for a membership when documented savings or needed features support the decision—not because the plan is labeled popular.
